9/6/08 at the Bank Boston Pavilion. MMJ kicked the livin' hell out out hurricane Hannah or at least of her remnants. 2 and 1/2 hours of beautiful rock & roll. I don't think I've seen a better live band in my 38 years. ...

Jack Johnson
love jack johnson...... hate the gorge crowd. disappointed.
written by lynn (08/23/2008 10:15:27 AM)

Review
Ok. Here is the deal.

I have enjoyed and LOVED the gorge for YEARS now. I have been to over 25 concerts and fully intended to continue. Last night? I believe may have changed my mind.

We went to Jack Johson. Thoroughly looking forward to it. Bought the tickets early... organized camping... going wtih a great group of folks.

Well... we get there...and its nothing but a pot smoking, cheap beer drinking bunch of jack asses. It seems that you can drink as much beer as you want... as long as YOU BUY IT THERE !!!! where did the crowd monitors go? they have always ONLY allowed drinking in the beer garden.. and had people walking through the crowd (lawn) to make sure everyone is cool. Last night? we saw no one. You could bounce through the crowd... or should I say "stumble" through the crowd balancing as many coors lights as you want. It was absolutely RIDICULOUS !

We go the gorge for the music... the most amazing surroundings.... and to enjoy people who have come for that exact same reason. Now? it seems its just a place to get incredibly f_d up and ridiculously stoned... and listen to the next jack ass next to you attempt to say something witty.

We couldnt hear the music. We moved once... which is NOT easy to do as a group...and our next location was no improvement. There was so much pot smoking we all nearly got sick.

Dont get me wrong. I am all for folks having fun. I truly am. BUT? come on now. Where is the music? If you are only there to get blown out of your mine... stay home..... Stay at your camp site..... or go to the damn BAR !

If this is what the gorge has turned into ? we will not be back...which would really suck. We shall stay with the local spots. ie: marymoor, winery, etc. At least there? the people surrounding you are respectful of the others there... AND the musician that came to play for you.

YOU drunk ass idiots have ruined the entire beautiful venue !

Sorry to Jack Johnson. He deserved more than what he got.

When leaving early? there were hundreds doing the same. All were discussing the evening. Our opinions? are NOT standing alone.

Signed,
-very disappointed ...

Just introduced to the Melvins. Sadly, I'd never heard them before 3 weeks ago. They were down for a show a couple days ago, got a ticket. Rocked my ass off! Big Buisness opened for them. Absolutely wonderful head-banging to be had. I suggest anyone who likes "sludge-metal" or any music with good droning guitars...please, support your local musicians and see this band live. ...

This band really rocks. They remind me of a classic rock band with punk rock vocals. Really clean to grungy tunes. The next big band to come out of the OC.

Incubus
the downward spiral...of incubus

Ya know, I really appreciate watching a band grow and discover new things about themselves and their sounds. Very rarely am I able to say the progression is one resembling a downward spiral, note: not the ALBUM but the act of spiraling down. However, this proves true for one of my favorite bands, Incubus. Some may not agree or say that it's just the natural act of any band as they become bigger. I understand, their lives change. Of course tending to the many needs of the masses can consume any person or group of people. I'm not ignorant to changes in lifestyle that accompany the sound and experiences showing new truths in life. Like I said, I enjoy feeling those changes in a band's music. I grow, my tastes change but their last two albums just don't appeal to me on any level, and so far, at any point in my life.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was definitely one of the greatest albums I've ever encountered, here or there. The metal/funk/dj mixes on this album are too much fun. So easy to get into. So easy to get high to. I imagine Brandon with those wicked dreads, spitting piecey verbiage at their loyal crowds. The music itself hung like thick drones of smoke above the audience. With that much energy, music becomes more than sound waves. It becomes an entity that can be breathed and drank like a thick, sweet liqueur, supplying all nutritional needs for the body.
Skipping to Morning View; a more sophisticated and fine-tuned album. Every song is definitely of high-quality and was probably much more heavily scrutinized than any other to that point. More rigidly produced but a VERY fluid album. I find every word easy to hang on. This is definitely my favorite album to sing to in their repertoire.
So what happened to A Crow Left of the Murder? I listened to it with such anticipation and was horribly disappointed. Where did their sound go? Then I gave it a couple years.....Then we get Light Grenades, still, no redemption. So what's next Incubus? How far will you go to appease the masses? I wonder, do they FEEL the music like they used to? Is it FLOWING from them anymore? I used to imagine it was secreted from their pores, bottled, put in a studio with microphones and out popped a record. Their early albums were that potent. the end ...

Venice-based The Peoples Party have produced both varied and eclectic music. Their music flows from ambient to Rocky to funk. I hadn’t heard something like this before, but the songs, and especially “My Friend” are fun to listen to, you never know what you’re going to get on the next track. The album
“ We Am One” comes out this summer, there’s no knowing what you’ll find on there. The Peoples Party also supports all kinds of organisations and causes they believe in. They’ve done spontaneous performances all over the country for the past year, varying from an apperance at South by Southwest in Austin to peace rallies and Democratic presidential debates. All in all it’s a very diverse band and I’m very curious about the album coming out this summer. ...

a shoreline dream feat. Ulrich Schnauss
neverChanger
latenight weeknight

The members of psych-rock outfit a shoreline dream hit a career milestone when they enlisted ambient-pop crafter Ulrich Schnauss to co-produce this track. A landscape of dreamy synth melodies and haunting minor chords, "neverChanger" also saw help from producer/composer Kramer, who did the final master of the track. "I never thought in a million years we'd be working with either of these legends of music," says bandmember Ryan Policky. "'neverChanger' is the baby of our polygamy." ...
