| What's the big idea? | Music Community | |
| Doesn't music community already exist? | Yes. We are creating and facilitating music community in a uniquely open and inclusive environment; unifying fans, makers, marketers, media, and retailers of music at a scale that until now hasn’t been achieved. | |
| What do you mean by open? | As the community host, we are fans of all of the people that make music such a huge part of our lives at every step of the journey. MusicHawk unites all lovers of music, whether they thrive on the notes themselves, or the business behind the notes. MusicHawk includes the bedroom teen fan and the seasoned club promoter. It crosses the divide between art, demographics, and commerce, throwing the bespectacled college rock snob into the same stew as the suburban hip-hopper. Amateur garage bands and the latest of iTunes’ corporate darlings sit side by side as equal artists on MusicHawk. Your favorite venue, which even now is cleaning up the beer-stink from last night’s show, is part of MusicHawk, as is the harmonica-wheezing street performer you pass by every day, banging out Dylan tunes on his beaten 12-string in front of the post office. The MusicHawk community rests on the feeling we all get when we toss the dollar bill into the open guitar case, or tear the shrinkwrap on a new cd in the parking lot of the record store, or watch the download bar work its mysterious delivery-magic as new music hits our hard drives. The collective power and love of music might just be the last thing that will keep us all together. | |
| What do you mean by inclusive? | Our music community allows everyone to not only have a seat at the table, but to devour musics of all shapes, kinds, and volumes, with whatever utensils they prefer. By its very nature, MusicHawk creates collaboration, participation, dialogue, and the free passage of information. Community members can participate regardless of the size of their marketing budget, tour bus, or the capacity of their iPod’s hard drive. | |
| What do you mean by scale? | Technology for technology’s sake is over. We've been there, done that. Yet, we do know how to use the Internet to create and enable massive collaboration and participation for our community members, regardless of geographic location or demographic profile. We all have that small handful of trusted friends that serve as our source for new music, sounds, and gigs. MusicHawk allows the user to ask, “What music have you been listening to lately?” on a global scale. Not only that, the answers returned are based solely on the passions of the listener and the excellence and accessibility of the art itself. Thanks to technology and the global community, the spectrum of music, music listeners, and the business of music delivery is widening. MusicHawk is the bridge over the great divide of music. | |
| How do I get involved? | Community membership is free, and it only takes about 1 minute to enter the new music universe. MusicHawk yields a wealth of features that members can dig into, but as a first step we ask that all community members let us know who their top 10 favorite artists are. Members can participate in any number of roles or identities. For example, a band member can participate as a fan, or on behalf his or her band. | |
